Service Tip of the Month - September

If you were to remove your hands from the steering wheel of your vehicle for longer then 5 seconds would your vehicle stay straight or instantly curve off the road? If it curves then you know your vehicle is leaning towards being out of alignment. Wheel alignment involves adjusting the angles of your car's wheels so that they are perpendicular to the road and positioned parallel to each other. Why is wheel alignment important?

Improper alignment of a vehicles wheels puts unequal pressure on your tires thereby increasing friction on particular areas and reducing the longevity of the tires. Think of an alignment like snow skis. When your skis are straight and flat on the snow you fly down the mountain. However, if you turn the skis on the edge and point the tips in you will start slowing down or plowing snow. Your tires act the same when they are out of alignment. Poorly aligned wheels will become a safety hazard for you apart from forcing you to buy new tires more often. When your tires are not aligned properly your vehicle is pressured to work harder to move, thus it faces more resistance from the road causing the vehicle to burn more fuel.

It is recommended that you have your vehicle's wheel alignment checked once every 6 months or every 6,000 miles whichever comes first. Our service department will check your tires at every service for any uneven wear and will recommend an alignment if needed. We have a special piece of equipment that uses lazer technology to read each of the vehicle's four wheels to determine whether any are out of alignment. Feel free to stop by the dealership for a free vehicle alignment test.
